The Alteration To Google Shows Search Results Won’t Change SEO

Google has announced the Google Instant version of its search engine which is a significant step in the task of searching for web content. The difference is that rather than entering words to describe the the search and pressing Enter, or selecting the Go button, the list of matching links displays in-flight as more search words are typed. It’s very good and makes searching much easier since a search can be refined and tweaked with instant results.

What does this mean for search engine optimisation? Well, it depends on your point of view. If you are offering yourself as an affordable SEO company and providing search engine optimisation services then it really doesn’t make any difference at all. Lots of bloggers have been speculating that it is putting an end to online marketing and will reduce search engine optimisation to an insignificance.

If you are a company with a site and have retained the services of a software consultancy or retained an affordable SEO company to place your website to the top of the search results displays, it’s a smashing thing because you can see immediately whether your money is being usefully spent with a definite result.

I don’t go along that the end is nigh for search engine optimisation. For the simple reason that the way Google, Lycos and the others weave their search magic is completely unchanged. They still rely on garnering links and keywords to be able to work out the relevance of a search word to a potentially suitable web page. And since the formulae are always being tweaked (which would make a fantastic difference) then simply changing the way that Google presents its results make not make an iota of difference.

In a separate dimension, if a software consultancy advised altering the way your website was laid out without actually amending the data shown then there is no major amendment to anything except to the eye of the beholder. An amendment to the way the information was gathered based on a reworking of how the database was read would be a massive amendment. And thus it is with Google Instant. The work of the search engine optimisation consultant remains the same as it was before to the amendment.

It is fair to say that anybody whose livelihood relies totally on somebody else is always going to be worried about any alterations that could be made having a detrimental effect. This is in fact the exact same position as someone who works in a factory who may worry about his employer packing up all the plant and tools and shipping them off to China or India, or in fact someone who works for anybody else who may wake up with a bad hangover and can the whole department.

The fact is that the search engine optimisation will comstantly be subject to turmoil if Google was to radically amend the way the search engines operate. But the point that they do work and somebody would need an extraordinarily good excuse to pluck and re-feather the golden goose.

So somebody who has an affordable SEO company (or an expensive one) need have no fear about Google altering and improving the way it presents search results. It makes no difference whatsoever to how search engine optimisation works.
