Google: One Step Closer to World Dominion
Google’s more than a dominant player in the US Search Engine market – It’s the omnipotent entity which people worship and suck up to. Even with the combined efforts of Bingahoo, Google still has more than two-thirds the market share, and a prestigious list of crown jewels that beat out competitors (YouTube being the most prominent among those).
However, Google’s successes in the US have not been mirrored completely in other parts of the globe. In many areas, Google is neck-and-neck with other search sites, and in a few regions, Google hasn’t made it to the top spot.
Well, we can add one more number one position for Google as of this month. According to official reports, the Czech Republic now favors Google, albeit by a narrow margin. Google seized 47.2% of the market share to lead Seznam’s 45.5% and claim the top spot from the local search engine powerhouse. This meant that Google, with the help of a vastly successful television advertisement campaign, reversed Seznam’s 20% lead over the course of a single year.
Well, one down – five more to go. Google has just five more pockets of resistance it has to crush before achieving world dominion. These are the five countries, along with their local search engine leaders.
* The People’s Republic of China, where Baidu leads and Google has stepped out – for now.
* Japan, where Yahoo currently leads strongly – for now at least, before Google takes over the right to provide Yahoo Japan’s SERPs.
* Taiwan, where Yahoo has the number one spot.
* Russia, where Yandex has remained steadfast in its position as market leader.
* South Korea, where netizens have shown strong loyalty to local SEP Naver.
Of course, there are some regions where there simply aren’t reports about who’s leading (comScore and other reporting groups simply don’t take the time), but of the 40 countries commonly reported on, Google now leads in 35.
