Add value to your site and optimise it for search engines
At its heart SEO is about making valueable and useful quality websites. We can forget this sometimes. The job is about ensuring that your site appears high up in search results and search engines are looking to present useful information to their users. It’s a simple equation.
Blogs are a classic example. The freedom to publish anything you want with no restriction on quantity leads people down some pointless avenues. Before clicking publish, ask yourself whether what you have written is of value to anybody. If it isn’t, then no-one will arrive at your site via this route.
You see people writing about the products they offer in mind-numbing detail. What they’re hoping to achieve with this approach is baffling. Any internet user who wants product information will be better off with a product page than a blog post. The blog post offers nothing and the best it can hope to do is compete with your own product pages, which you don’t want anyway.
Other blogs offer tips and advice but the site owner doesn’t seem to appreciate that it is better to create one great, authoritative page than five middling pages all on the same subject. By continually retreading the same ground, the site is expanding in terms of the space it takes up on its server, but not in meaningful terms.
Not every site warrants two blog posts a day. There are industries where you can update almost constantly as there is news related to the products or services that you offer, but if your business fills a smaller niche, the subject matter might not justify many posts at all. Ask yourself whether anyone is actually searching for the information you are providing.
